SAPS Recruitment Details:

  • Number of Trainees: 10,000 entry-level Police Trainees

  • Basic Training Phase: Stipend of R4500 per month
  • Probation Phase: Salary notch of R216,033 per annum

Core Functions:
Upon successful completion of training, Police Trainees will be expected to:

  • Prevent, combat, and investigate crime
  • Maintain public order
  • Safeguard and ensure the safety of the citizens and their belongings within the nation.
  • Uphold and enforce the law

Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP):

  • Duration: 21 months
  • Phases:
  1. Induction Phase (1 month)
  2. Basic Training Phase (8 months)
  3. Probation Phase (12 months) – Workplace Exposure Programme

Requirements for Applicants:
Applicants must:

  • Must be a permanent resident of South Africa
  • Must hold a high school diploma (grade 12) or an equivalent qualification.
  • Preferably have a valid driver’s license for a light motor vehicle
  • Demonstrate proficiency in both English and another official language.
  • Fall within the age range of 18 to 35 years.
  • Have no previous criminal convictions and be willing to undergo background checks
  • Not have visible tattoo marks when wearing the police uniform
  • Be physically and mentally fit for the role
  • Undergo and pass various assessments, including medical, psychological, and fitness evaluations
  • Be willing to serve anywhere in South Africa

SAPS Selection Process:

  • Applicants will undergo fitness, psychometric, and integrity testing, medical evaluation, and interviews.
  • Qualifications, driver’s license, citizenship, and residential address will be verified.
  • Vetting process to check for any illicit activity or pending records.
  • Previous government employees dismissed due to misconduct will not be considered.
  • Health conditions that may interrupt training may lead to exclusion.
  • Successful applicants will undergo a personal interview and may undergo security screening and reference checks.

  • It is imperative to meticulously adhere to all instructions stipulated on the application form.

  • A medical examination is required (BMI ≤ 30, waist circumference ≤ 102 cm for males, ≤ 88 cm for females).
