Purpose of the Job: General Foreman Plant

The purpose of this role is to supervise and assist a team in executing mechanical activities and general plant activities.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Grade 12/NQF Level 4 is essential.
  • A recognized relevant Mechanical Trade Qualification (Section 13/26D) is essential.
  • OR –
  • Proof of recognized completed apprenticeship contract (completed by means of effluxion of time) AND NTC 2 / (Recognized Trade Theory) Qualification (preference given to Mechanical background).
  • Minimum of 2 years working experience as a foreman or acting foreman is essential.
  • Minimum of 3 years working experience in a concentrator plant as an artisan is essential.
  • Computer literacy (MS Office package) is essential.
  • Enrolment or Completion of the Impala foreman development modules is essential.
  • Valid Medical Certificate or medically fit to obtain such a certificate.

General Foreman Plant Competencies:

  • Supervisory and managerial skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of mine standards, best practices, risk management, and operational business objectives.
  • Technical working knowledge related to stopping, development, survey, equipping, explosives, and Board and Pillar Mining.
  • Knowledge of safety policies, procedures, and regulations.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Supervising the Engineering workshop and maintenance activities.
  • Guiding and assisting fitting and boiler making Artisans with daily maintenance and construction activities.
  • Managing labor relations and conflict situations within the mechanical workforce.
  • Maintaining control of Engineering workshop and stores.
  • Daily management of waste sorting area and change house facilities.
  • Daily management of Grinding media.
  • Ensuring relining maintenance is effectively carried out on all the mills in the plant.
  • Providing Artisans with expert assistance in solving technical problems.
  • Staying informed on the latest technology for application or replacement of present systems, equipment, technology, and sharing necessary information.
  • Reporting to Section Engineer on all activities and problem areas.
  • Analyzing and solving problems.
  • Attending callouts for breakdowns.
  • Providing adequate workshop store facility and stock levels for efficient maintenance and productivity.
  • Diagnosing and repairing faults on equipment and machinery during production/operation.
