Job Details:

  • Contract Type: Yearly Basis

External Markers Requirements:

  • Qualifications:
    • NQF Level 9 (MEd/MPhil/MTech/MEd) or NQF Level 10 (Ph.D/DEd/DPhil/DTech) in relevant disciplines.
  • Experience:
    • At least 5 years of teaching experience (primary or secondary) or relevant education field experience.
    • At least 3 years of subject methodology teaching experience (CAPS school) or 5 years of relevant education field experience (TVET College/University).

External Markers Duties:

  • Complete and execute assessment tasks professionally and ethically.
  • Adhere to UNISA tuition, assessment, examination, and plagiarism policies and guidelines.
  • Act ethically and professionally when dealing with assessment tasks.
  • Mark assessment tasks fairly and consistently.
  • Meet deadlines for allocated assessment tasks.
  • Attend markers’ meetings and submit reports on time.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all assessment tasks.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of the relevant discipline.
  • Understanding of assessment and assessment practices.
  • Familiarity with marking procedures and constructive feedback on assessment tasks.
  • Knowledge of academic honesty, plagiarism, and teamwork/leadership skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing).
  • Honesty, ethics, empathy, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Service-oriented mindset, good time management, conflict resolution, and ability to work under pressure.


  • Computer and internet skills.
  • Own a desktop computer or laptop with internet connectivity.
  • Advanced communication skills and proficiency in English.
  • Digital literacy skills, competence in ICT, and familiarity with online learning environments.
  • Experience in online marking tools, software, or Learning Management Systems (LMS) like Moodle.

External Markers Application Process:
