Job Advert Summary:

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Electrician to join our team at Rand Water. As an Electrician, you will be responsible for supporting the Electrical Section in maintaining electrical systems and equipment on-site. This is a permanent position based in Johannesburg South, Gauteng, South Africa.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Successful completion of Grade 12
  • Possession of an N3 electrical Certificate or an equivalent qualification, along with a recognized Trade test as an Electrician
  • A minimum of 2 years post-apprenticeship experience in an electrical maintenance environment
  • Possession of a Code 08 Driver’s license that is valid and meets the requirements of Rand Water, including successfully passing the K53 test.
  • Proficiency in completing job cards as required by Rand Water
  • Proficiency in handling MV/LV switch gears, PLCs, Soft starters, VSDs, Actuators, Protection relays, UPSs, and Generators through practical experience.
  • Willingness to participate in standby duties

Primary Duties:

Conduct preventive maintenance and fault finding on HT and LT systems of electrical pumps and equipment
Perform High and Low Voltage Electrical work on the plant and equipment
Troubleshoot AC/DC drives and interpret schematic drawings
Carry out repairs, installations, and commissioning of new equipment


The candidate possesses a comprehensive understanding of high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) electrical distribution and reticulation systems, reflecting their familiarity with the intricate workings of these critical components. Their extensive experience enables them to navigate and manage these systems with confidence and expertise.

Furthermore, they have demonstrated a high level of proficiency in working with both alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) drives. Their ability to handle these drives effectively showcases their technical prowess and adaptability in various electrical settings.

In addition to their practical skills, the candidate also possesses a strong understanding of schematic drawings. They are adept at interpreting these complex diagrams, which serve as essential blueprints for electrical systems. This skill allows them to accurately diagnose issues, implement repairs, and execute installations with precision and confidence. Their comprehension of schematic drawings significantly contributes to their overall effectiveness in maintaining and optimizing electrical systems.
